Christkindl Market
[A Festival of German Christmas.]
Based on a 400 year old tradition, Kitchener's Christkindl Market offers visitors the opportunity to shop for presents, enjoy tasty German food and listen to live festive entertainment. This market occupies the entire Rotunda, Duke Street lobby and outdoor Civic Square at Kitchener City Hall. For many visitors, not only from our Region but across Canada and throughout the US, Kitchener's City Hall is the place to be in December each year. It is a place to shop for that special gift, to relax and enjoy a gluhwein, to meet your friends and simply to have a good time. Throughout the four days enjoy the festivities and entertainment. There is something for everyone.

Oktoberfest

For 9 days every year, we present North America's largest Bavarian-style Festival. Thousands of people from across the continent join tens of thousands more at over 20 festhalls and more than 50 general and cultural events in the traditional Oktoberfest homage to the harvest. Our Thanksgiving party is no turkey as we host Canada's only Thanksgiving Day parade.

SportsWorld

Entertainment for the whole family is the goal of Sportsworld Park, located just off Hwy 8 near the 401. Activities include a huge waterpark with wavepool and waterslides, children's wet and dry play areas, rides, 2 award winning minigolf courses, indoor driving range with batting cages, video arcade, Mad Science, rock climbing wall and outdoor go kart track. Also onsite is Moose Winooski's, a family restaurant with a Northern Ontario theme and the region's only Outback Steakhouse. Open year round - check out the website for hours and dates of operation.

Walter Bean Grand River Trail

The Walter Bean Grand River Trail is a trail network with access points along the Grand River. The ultimate goal is a trail extended through the Grand River Valley and municipalities of Woolwich, Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge. The trail route will expose the users to a broad range of environments, from river shorelines, river flats and spectacular lookouts offering panoramic views and vistas, to wooded slopes, open fields and urban streets.

The first phase of trail construction has been completed from Kiwanis Park at the City of Waterloo boundary to Forwell Road at Otterbein Road. The second phase of construction proposed for 2002 will continue south from Forwell Road to Zeller Drive and from King Street East at the Freeport Bridge to Pioneer Tower at Lookout Lane.

Waterloo Regional Children's Museum

Located in the historic former Goudies department store building in the heart of Kitchener, the Waterloo Regional Children's Museum is unlike any other facility in this country. It is a place where art and technology meet and - what is most exciting about the concept - where the outcomes of the activities are open ended. This unpredictable nature of the experience promises to promote genuine creativity and discovery. Families in the province of Ontario will have a destination that provides entertaining and enriching activities for all members. Schools will use the Museum to complement the new arts and science curriculum and it will provide ongoing innovative partnership opportunities.

Your Kitchener Market
Each week for more than 130 years, meat, fowl, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, herbs, roots, fish, cheese and flowers have flowed into Kitchener's market building in anticipation of the thrifty and gourmet alike. Market vendors delight in offering unsurpassed variety, quality and freshness to their many customers, some who are fourth and fifth generation market shoppers. And shoppers delight in the anticipation of the treats to come.

From its rural beginnings as an outdoor market in the 1830s, Your Kitchener Market has emerged as a gathering place, a community icon, a country block in the city where hundreds come weekly to shop, browse, meet their neighbours and friends and experience a feast for all senses.

Inside, the new, urban market is both modern and inviting, with 50-foot transparent ceilings and walls of windows flooding the market space with natural light. All of the sights, sounds and smells patrons have come to know and love about the market come alive in this expansive space. Visitors can visit both the Market Shops - open six days each week - as well as sample the fare of farmers' market vendors.
